UJAA COLLABORATES WITH LCF AND THE JAAHS TO PROVIDE COVID CARE PACKAGES FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
May 5, 2020: The Union of Jamaican Alumni Associations (USA) Inc. (UJAA), the Jamaican Alumni Association of High Schools (JAAHS) and the Lasco Chin Foundation (LCF) have become a single force in a “one, one coco full basket” initiative to ensure that students and their families will receive a COVID CARE Package for at least the next 3 months.
The unprecedented threat of the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted global chapters of alumni associations of schools in Jamaica to collaborate to ease the struggle that students and families are facing at this difficult time. Many students have their only meal while at school.
Care packages will include food items, fresh fruit and vegetables as well as personal and household items.
UJAA – will facilitate donations for packages to the schools
LCF – will provide fulfillment of the Care packages
JAAHS – will distribute the Care Packages to the schools
Each package costs US $25.90 and will feed a family of 3 for 1 week. Persons can donate more than once.
As described by UJAA President, Lesleyann Samuel, “The old adage applies here, that it takes a village. In this case the village of alumni in the Diaspora joins the alumni and friends village in Jamaica to provide to those most vulnerable, a testament to their commitment to assist their schools while managing the spread of the virus.”
